This site is operated from the United Kingdom for clients in Canada.
This is the plain-English version of how Wealthfare handles your personal information. If you have any questions after reading it, email steffen@wealthfarecheck.ca and you’ll get a real answer from a real person.
Who we are
Wealthfare is a small business growth consultancy serving Canadian businesses, founded and run by Steffen Hoyemsvoll.
Wealthfare is operated by Voll Studios Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 09302803, with its registered office at 5 Brayford Square, London, England, E1 0SG. Voll Studios Ltd is the data controller for any personal information collected through this website, and holds United Kingdom registration ZC135838 with the UK Information Commissioner’s Office. You can reach us at steffen@wealthfarecheck.ca.
Where your information is processed
Because we operate from the United Kingdom, your personal information is processed outside Canada. It is held in the United Kingdom and in the countries where the processors listed below keep their data, which are in the European Union and the United States. While your information is in another country it is subject to the laws of that country, and courts or government agencies there may be able to require access to it. Voll Studios Ltd remains accountable under PIPEDA, the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act, for personal information it transfers outside Canada.
What we collect
We only collect the information you give us, and only for the reason you gave it.
Newsletter signups. Just your email address, whether you sign up through the footer form, the audit tool, or a guide download.
Business audit tool. Your email, the name and type of your business, and your answers to the twelve diagnostic questions. We use this to generate your results and to follow up if you ask us to.
Guide downloads. Your email address and which guide you asked for.
Contact form. Your name, email, phone number if you provide one, business type, the message you wrote, and which contact method you prefer.
Website analytics. We use two providers. Plausible gives us cookie-free, aggregated page counts for every visitor. Google Analytics gives us more detailed behavioural data, and only collects identifying information if you accept the cookie banner.
How it’s stored
Form submissions are stored in Supabase, on infrastructure hosted in the European Union. Emails are delivered through Resend. Aggregated page-view counts are collected by Plausible, an EU-hosted, cookie-free analytics provider. If you accept the cookie banner, Google Analytics (operated by Google LLC) also collects usage data on servers in the United States. That’s the full list of processors. No third-party marketing tools, no ad pixels, no data brokers.
How we use it
We use your information to send you what you asked for, such as a guide, your audit results, or a reply to your message. If you’ve subscribed to the newsletter, we’ll also occasionally email you with things we think are genuinely useful for running a small business in Canada. That’s it.
We never sell your data. We never share it with third parties for marketing. You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time with one click.
Marketing email
CASL, Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation, requires your consent before a commercial electronic message is sent to you, requires the sender to be identified, and requires a working unsubscribe in every message. That is how we run the list. You are added only when you ask to be, every email says it comes from Wealthfare and gives you a reply address, and every email carries an unsubscribe link. Use it and we stop.
Cookies and similar technology
Wealthfare itself sets no cookies. The site is static and doesn’t need them to work. Plausible runs cookie-free for every visitor, identifies nobody, and does not fingerprint.
If Google Analytics is enabled and you’ve accepted the cookie banner, GA sets two cookies (_ga and _ga_<ID>) so it can tell returning visitors apart from new ones. If you reject, GA operates in Google’s Consent Mode v2 and sets no cookies, sends no identifiers, and only contributes to modelled, aggregate totals.
Your consent choice is remembered in your browser’s localStorage under the key wealthfare-cookie-consent. That key is never sent to any server; it just keeps the banner from reappearing on every page.
What’s stored and why
- _ga: cookie set by Google Analytics only if you accept. Distinguishes unique visitors. Retention: 2 years.
- _ga_<ID>: cookie set by Google Analytics only if you accept. Holds GA4 session state. Retention: 2 years.
- wealthfare-cookie-consent: localStorage value set by Wealthfare (not a cookie). Remembers your consent choice. Kept until you clear your browser storage.
How to change your choice
Scroll to the bottom of any page and click Manage cookies. The banner reappears; click Accept or Reject, and your new choice replaces the old one immediately.
Your rights under PIPEDA
PIPEDA gives you the right to ask what personal information we hold about you and how we have used it, to be given a copy of it, and to have anything inaccurate or incomplete corrected. You can also withdraw your consent at any time, subject to reasonable notice and to anything we are legally required to keep. To exercise any of these rights, email steffen@wealthfarecheck.ca and we’ll respond within a working day.
Beyond what the law asks of us: if you want your information deleted, say so and we delete it.
You also have the right to complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC) if you think we’ve handled your information badly. If you live in Quebec, British Columbia, or Alberta, your province has its own private-sector privacy law and its own regulator: Quebec’s Law 25, and the Personal Information Protection Acts of British Columbia and Alberta. We’d obviously rather you told us first so we can fix it, but it’s your right either way.
Retention
Newsletter subscribers: we keep your email for as long as you’re subscribed. Unsubscribe and it’s removed.
Audit results: kept for two years from submission, then deleted.
Contact form submissions: kept for three years, then deleted. This is so we can look back at a prior conversation if a client comes back to us.
Guide downloads: the email and which guide you took are kept while you remain subscribed to the newsletter.
Changes to this policy
If anything important changes we’ll update this page and update the “last updated” date at the top. Nothing here is locked in stone, but we won’t start doing anything sneaky without telling you first.
